These Houseplants Will Help Clean the Air in Your Home

Allergens, dust and mold can infiltrate your house causing all sorts of health issues including nasal congestion, sore throat, sneezing, itching eyes and possibly worse. Aside from enclosing your home in a plastic bubble, there are things you can do to clean the air in your home. Did you know that houseplants will help clean the air in your home? Not only do common houseplants add color and interest to any space, they also help keep the air free of allergens and chemicals.

English Ivy

Combats one of the most prevalent household chemicals, formaldehyde, often found in wood floors and synthetic carpets. They are easy to maintain and even thrive in low light. Peace Lily Can be placed near electronics to absorb acetone. Be careful, it is toxic to pets.

Spider Plants

Great at combating carbon monoxide. Spider plants are easy to grow and maintain, just remember to separate the plant and re-pot each spring. Mother-in-Law’s Tongue Works for you while you sleep because it releases oxygen at night. Use it in conjunction with your furnace filter that removes dust, pollen and mold spores from the air while the plant introduces fresh air. Houseplants will help clean the air in your home, leaving it fresher and safer for your family. Consider placing a plant or two in each room to maximize the benefits they can provide. Remember to maintain them with regular watering and re-potting as necessary.
