5 Reasons You Should Consider a Whole House Water Filtration System
Clean water for drinking, bathing and cooking is dependent on the source that enters your house. Whether your water is supplied by a well or by a municipal source, it may fall short of your quality standards. Water filtration systems improve these standards by allowing you to control the end product.
The two primary types of water filtration systems are: 1) point-of-use and 2) point-of-entry. Point-of-use systems are installed at singular water sources, such as your kitchen sink. Point-of-entry water filters are installed at your home’s incoming water supply to treat all the water you use. Whole-house water filtration systems provide numerous benefits over point-of-use filters, including these five examples:
- 1. Removing chemicals
Municipal sources add chlorine, which is a toxic additive, to the water supply as an anti-bacterial treatment. These chlorine levels are mandated within a “safe” range; however, the amounts may vary and your family is at the mercy of the unknown. Well water may contain other chemicals, such as lead and arsenic from untreated groundwater. When you wash clothes in unfiltered water, chemicals pass from the water onto the clothes you wear, the sheets you sleep on and the towels you use to dry yourself after bathing. - 2. Removing contaminants
Municipal and well water may also have other contaminants, such as bacteria that can make you sick. Whole-house water filtration systems removes harmful bacteria from drinking water, bathing water and water used for cooking. - 3. Improving taste
Clean water that is free of chemicals simply tastes better. - 4. Assisting immune system
Family members with compromised immune systems are more at risk from exposure to chlorine and other chemicals. Unfiltered water may exacerbate allergies and aggravate asthma symptoms. - 5. Protecting your home’s plumbing
Corroded pipes and sediment buildup weaken your home’s plumbing system. Whole-house water filtration systems remove impurities before they can damage your plumbing.
