Technological advances in 3D CAD and BIM are creating tremendous effectiveness and efficiency gains in the EPC industry. Sobieski Mechanical Contractors has been a trade contracting leader for over a decade in employing CAD technologies.
Sobieski uses 3D CAD software for developing our detailed mechanical shop drawings on all projects. For BIM based projects, we work with the project team to import the backgrounds, load our mechanical drawings, and upload all other CAD shop drawings into our BIM software system. From that point, we virtually model the entire facility in BIM, clash detection is run, and design clashes are viewed on screen and reconciled. This BIM process is the centerpiece of our team planning for BIM-based projects. In addition to eliminating the cost and time impacts of field clashes, this powerful process enables the owner and the design team to do a virtual tour of the facility before any work starts in the field.
